  • Cuts

    • All students are welcome to try-out.
    • No student who makes a genuine effort to be a member of this team will be cut from the team.
  • Attendance

We expect all players to attend practice.  Here are some basic guidelines.

    • Practices are held three days a week for all players on the team: A Side, B Side, U-16 Side and Division II.  Attendance at practice is mandatory if a player hopes to be a starter.  Planning for outside functions – part-time jobs, vacations, school dances, Kairos or other retreat programs – should be done with these rules in mind.
    • If a player is ill, he must contact the head coach, either in e-mail, voice mail or note, before practice in order to be excused from practice.
    • Players may also be excused from practice for academic reasons if they consult with the coaching staff ahead of time.
    • Unexcused absences may jeopardize a player’s chances of starting and/or seeing playing time in the game subsequent to the missed practice.
    • An late arrival as a result of JUG on the last practice before a game may forfeit a player’s position as a starter in that game.
    • An absence on the last practice before a game – excused or unexcused – automatically forfeits a player’s position as a starter in that game.
  • Kairos

Most of the Coaches have made and/or led Kairos while at the Prep.  We support, encourage and appreciate the Kairos Retreat Program and Sr. Woody's efforts, and feel it is a valuable aspect of every Prep Student's experience.

That being stated, we expect our players to plan accordingly and sign-up for a Kairos that does not conflict with the game and practice schedule.

    The above guidelines will apply.

  • Saturday Practices

Occasionally, the team will hold Saturday practices.  These are meant to supplement the team's regular practice schedule and to allow a little more time to work on drills, skills, and particualr aspects of the game.

Outside commitments - work, family obligations - are understandable.  We expect players - especially players working for a starting spot on any of the sides - to make every effort to attend.

Players should talk to the coaches with questions or concerns.

Beginning Season Practice & Practice Gear

Beginning Season Practice

NEW PLAYERS

Prep Rugby runs a 2 week introductory practice session for new players, beginning either in late January or in early February at Memorial Hall Field.

Players should meet in the foyer after school the day of the first practice and pay attention to the Daily and 7th Period Announcements.

Players who are interested in other sports but are considering rugby are welcome to come to practice whenever their winter sports end their season.

RETURNING PLAYERS

Returning players are expected to attend the New Players' Practice to assist the new players and to get ready for the season.

Those players who are participating in other winter sports are expected to continue through to the end of that team's season.  They can then join rugby practice at that time.

Practice Gear

Prep Rugby generally will practice in any weather, safety permitting and field conditions permitting.  Students should never assume practice will be cancelled simply because it is raining or it is cold.

Nevertheless, safety is a priority and in the event that practice needs to be moved indoors, students are always expected to have practice clothes for indoor and outdoor practice.

Included in dues are practice clothes.  They have not yet arrived but will be distributed upon arrival.

Students should also have clothes to change into for the car/bus ride home.

Mandatory:

- mouthguard

- spikes and sneakers

  1. All students must have a mouth guard and rugby shorts in order to practice and/or play in games by MARCH 1, 2009

Optional:

- headgear

- protective vest

- athletic tape

- other safety gear
